For male dogs, it is generally thought that neutering is, on the whole, the better option. It's easy to see why many people take this view, given that there are so many unwanted dogs in rescue centres and more and more unwanted puppies born each year.
There are certainly also some specific benefits to neutering. Neutered dogs typically have better behavior; they are calmer, less aggressive and less likely to stray away from the home. A neutered dog will also not mark its territory to the same extent as a non-neutered dog. It should be noted that neutering alone will not necessarily resolve all behavioral issues and training is still likely to be needed.
